What is skin? Our skin is the body’s largest organ. Skin is a complex system of cell layers, nerves and glands that help protect us from toxic agents, microorganisms, varying temperatures and damaging sunlight. To help regulate body temperature, your body perspires. Perspiration also cleanses your system by expelling various impurities from the body. In addition, your skin is a huge sensor packed with nerves that keep your brain in touch with the outside world.
At birth, our skin is soft, smooth and supple. However as we age, our skin, specifically around the face begins to wrinkle as it loses its ability to retain moisture along with elasticity. Different factors impact your skin: sun exposure, seasons, lifestyle, heredity, cigarette toxins and diet. Proper skin care is essential in order to maintain health and vitality of this multi-functional organ.
To help achieve and preserve a youthful glowing completion, we must first understand the various areas of the face along with your skin type.
The T-Zone is the part of your face that is made up of the forehead, nose, chin and area circling the mouth. This area is called the T-Zone because it shaped like the letter T. Most times, the T-Zone is oiler than the rest of the face because it has a higher amount of oil glands. Because of the higher oil content, there is a greater probability of break outs, clogged pores and irritation due to sun/wind burn. Oily skin tends to look shiny, greasy and unattractive because excess sebum production lubricates the skin day and night. With many individuals, the cheeks will be normal or dry when the T-Zone is oily – this is called Normal/Combination Skin, which is very common. The goal is to balance our skin in all areas. This requires varied treatments for each area of the face. Give the skin what it needs and where it needs it!
