Now that the New Year is upon us, many of us look back on the past year and take account of our life. We can look at ourselves from a mental, physical and spiritual perspective to decide what is working, what is not and the areas we can improve upon.
The New Year is the perfect time to make personal commitments that will help improve ourselves. The first step is to identify the changes we want to make. The next step is to have the personal determination (commitment & willpower) to follow through on the changes. With this in mind, here are some suggested New Years resolutions to help you have the best looking skin possible. Remember, that beauty starts from within, so having healthly looking skin is accomplished from the inside as well as the outside.
1) Know Your Skin Type
So you can get the most benefit out of your skin care products and how to use them properly.
2) Establish a Daily Skin Care Routine
Those who invest time and effort in caring for their skin, will realize the benefits and see the results.
3) Reduce Stress
Try to reduce stress in your life as much as possible. Take time to do the things that make you feel happy and relaxed.
4) The Benefits of Sleep
Get at least 8 hours of sleep each night. When you sleep your body is still working to rid itself of toxins that are detrimental to your skin. Sufficient sleep keeps unattractive dark circles away, reduces stress and revitalizes your entire persona.
5) Drink Plenty of Water
Our bodies are comprised mostly of water, approximately 60-70%. Water is essential to life and everything in your body needs it. Water also helps flush toxins out of your system and helps organs function properly.
6) Remove Your Make Up At Night
Wearing makeup can make you look and feel great! However you need to remove it every night. If you don’t, it can mix with dirt and other oils to clog your pores which can cause unsightly break outs.
7) Clean Your Makeup Brushes Once a Week
Bacteria and oil can accumulate on your makeup brushes, causing clogged pores and breakouts. Use a mild liquid soap with warm water to carefully wash the makeup out of your brushes, then rinse thoroughly. Comb the bristles to prevent tangling. Then dry on a towel overnight or place towel in sunlight. Cosmetic sponges should also be washed with mild soap and rinsed thoroughly after each use.
8) Wash Your Face and Body Right After Exercising
Exercising is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Take a shower as soon as you can after your work out to keep your skin looking clear and clean. Perspiration and grime left too long on skin can clog pores and cause breakouts.
9) Exfoliate Regularly
As adults, it takes our skin about one month to replenish itself. Skin cells can dry out and loose their luster making our complexions look dull. Boost the renewal process through exfoliating treatments. For best results, exfoliate once or twice a week.
10) Stay with the Program
Once you start a new skin care program, you need to be patient and give it time to work. If you use the products consistently and as directed, you should see results in six weeks or less. If you do not see any change in your skin then chances are these products are not for you.
11) Moisturize After Showering or Bathing
Hot showers and baths feel wonderful but can strip skin of precious oils. Face creams along with body oils and lotions will help replenish skins natural moisture content. For best results, apply creams, lotions and oils right after showering or bathing while skin is still damp.
12) Protect Your Hands
Your hands say a lot about you. With our busy lives, we often forget to take care of our hands. Woman have known for years, that taking care of your hands is vital in maintaining an over all youthful appearance. Many factors can age your hands – exposure to wind, sun and cold. To keep your hands young looking, moisturize them at least twice a day or when ever you think of it. Keep hand cream everywhere you can think of: next to your bedside, in your car, by your desk, in your purse or gym bag. For an intensive overnight treatment, moisturize hands with a rich cream. Then go to sleep with white cotton gloves. In the morning your hands will feel much softer and smoother. Also, protect hands by wearing gloves when doing dishes, housework and gardening.
