Summer is finally here!
As the season changes, it’s essential to adjust your skin care regime. New seasons bring new variables to consider, including warm temperatures, humidity and SPF – all of which increase the risk of oily skin. Don’t worry, though – it’s completely normal! To help you manage this, we’ve provided you with 10 Top Tips for caring and combating oily skin.
Cleanse your face twice a day. Why? Cleansing your face is the 1st step to maintaining a healthy skin regime. Be diligent about your washing routine but make sure to use a cleanser that doesn’t strip your skin. Over cleansing skin will have the opposite effect and can actually stimulate oil production instead of decreasing it.
Exfoliate your skin once or twice a week. This simple yet effective process will help remove old skin cells from the top surface of your skin. Since your body generates new skin cells around the clock, exfoliation helps unclog pores which results in clearer and brighter skin.
3. CLAY BASED MASQUE
Use a clay based masque once or twice a week to absorb excess oil and impurities. Clay is an important cosmetic ingredient to help treat and promote glowing skin. For an extra cleansing boost, first exfoliate your skin, then apply masque right after.
4. APPLY OIL FREE MOISTURIZER OR SERUM
Make sure to use an oil free moisturizer or serum. Your skin needs a balance of both oil and water to maintain a fresh, healthy looking complexion. Oily skin produces more than enough oil on its own, so you do not need to apply more oil. Oil on top of oil could cause a potential blemish. However, your skin does need water to stay hydrated.
5. LIGHTEN UP YOUR MAKE-UP BASE
Because of warmer temperatures, your skin sweats more during the summer. Heavy foundations can melt and clog your pores. For this reason, switch from a heavier make up base to a sheer light weight foundation or tinted moisturizer.
6. AVOID TOUCHING YOUR FACE
Keep your hands away from your face as it transfers additional oil, dirt and germs to your skin making it prone to break-outs.
7. BLOT EXCESS OIL
When your face looks shiny, keep blotting papers handy to absorb excess oil
8. DRINK LOTS OF WATER
Water cleanses impurities from the skin. It is commonly recommended to drink 6 to 8 glasses a day. Sufficient water consumption helps maintain a balance within the lipid barrier that exists between the cells of your skin. In addition, adequate water consumption helps with the flow of blood and nutrients to the skin.
9. WATCH YOUR DIET
Make sure your diet includes lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Stay away from heavy greasy foods which can add extra oil to the skin making it more susceptible to acne and break outs.
10. PROTECT WITH SUNSCREEN
To help protect your skin from sun damage and pre-mature aging, apply sunscreen daily. Use at least SPF 15. An oil free sunscreen is the best choice.
